The capstone Committee is composed of volunteers who plan and organize the yearly event. Most of the committee is composed of Alumni from the University of Alberta Mechanical Engineering department. It is our goal to recognize the accomplishments of of future engineering graduate.
Jordan James, E.I.T. - Capstone Committee Chair
Bsc. Mechanical Engineering Coop - 2005
Jordan currently is employed as a project Engineer for Stellarton Technologies. Part of his job includes the design of downhole tools as well as supporting manufacturing. Jordan has been involved with the capstone committee for three years and is currently serving his second term as the chair.
Cole Nychka, E.I.T. - Capstone Committee Member
Bsc. Mechanical Engineering Coop - 2005
Cole works for ATCO Gas as an engineering resource to their regulatory and rate development department. Cole's job also requires assisting with proper depreciation of capital assets including asset life and cost of removal forecasts. This is Cole's first year on the Capstone Committee.
Nancy Sorensen, E.I.T. - Capstone Committee Member
Bsc. Mechanical Engineering Coop - 2005
Nancy works at Colt WorleyParsons Edmonton as a Mechanical E.I.T. in the area of Rotating Equipment. Nancy's main role at work is creating technical specification that are used to procure and manufacture equipment for various applications in the Oilsands and Oil & Gas Industries. Nancy has been involved with the Capstone Committee for the past two years.
Paul Rieder, P.Eng - Capstone Committee Member
B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering Co-op - 2003
Paul is currently employed with LJ Welding and Machine as a Design Engineer. Currently, Paul is designing a centrifuge for separating slop-oil, and will be developing new products and product lines for the materials handling industry. Prior to that, he worked with Halliburton's drilling technology group as a Design Engineer, CAD Administrator, and Project Coordinator. This is Paul's first year with the Capstone Committee.
Levi McCarroll, P.Eng. - Capstone Committee Member
Bsc. Mechanical Engineering - 2002
Levi is a self-employed engineering design consultant specializing in the development of consumer products and vehicles using Computer Aided Design (CAD). Levi's work includes industrial design, prototyping, component and assembly design and full production tooling development. He has also worked in the Alberta oil and gas industry in the development of high-tech drilling systems. Levi has been involved with the Capstone Committee for the past three years.
Tyler Hupka, E.I.T. - Capstone Committee Member
B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering Co-op - 2005
Tyler is currently employed as a Plant Engineer at the Petro-Canada Edmonton Refinery, providing mechanical engineering support to the maintenance, operations and turnaround groups, with a focus on fixed equipment. 2008-09 will be Tyler’s third year as a member of the Capstone Committee.
